The light and shadows, and shadows within shadows, the contrasts between dark and light are what intrigue me about metal point.
I love working with very bright light and big contrasts. The effect of strong lingt on soft skin is like trying to paint on a spider web.
The metal itself seems inconsistant. I work with 24 kt gold, and even with pure gold, that I've collected and smelted myself, it's still sometimes streaky, sometimes blotchy, sometimes it's smooth and sometimes not. It looks easy but it's far from it; a very finicky medium.
But I love the effects and softness I can achieve with it. It glows. Literally, the gold glows. It's very difficult to depict in a photograph or scan, but it glows. When you see an original piece, you'll understand. |
